An Inspiring Voice is Silent Today!

Covey

Today, July 16th, 2012, we heard the sad news, that Stephen R. Covey, author of “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” as well as several other books that together have sold millions of copies, has passed away from the trauma of a bicycling accident. He was 79.

One of Covey’s key phrases was ” to leave a legacy”. There is a whole new generation of business people who have been influenced by his thinking and I am one of them. Reading his 7 habits inspired me to focus on my purpose and mission and now I am actually living the 8th Habit and impacting others. The 8th habit according to Covey is to “find your voice and inspire others to find theirs”. That is the legacy I want to leave in others.

Finding your voice is a journey not a destination. It is discovering and identifying your signature strengths, your purpose and mission so that we make a contribution of significance to our world. You are an amazing and unique individual as much as Stephen Covey.

Our world needs your gifts! Have you found your voice, your purpose, mission and vision? What is the unique role you are called towards? What legacy will you leave when you leave this planet?

Inspiration on Wheels!

A raceday inspiration

Volunteering on this chilly Spring morning at the Start line of the 2012 Vancouver Sun Run, I met an amazing inspiration. Her name is Anjali Forber-Pratt.

Hailing from India, Anjali has an amazing story of triumphing over many obstacles in life including being an orphan. As I saw this passionate and committed woman warm up, on her racing wheelchair, I marvelled at her zest and zeal for life. I talked to her briefly about her origins in India, gave her a big hug and wished her well in the race. I also told her how much of an inspiration she is to me. A little more than half an hour later, she went on to win the women’s wheelchair event, with an official time of 34:23. Congratulations, Dr. Anjali!

Today, I am full of gratitude that I am not paralyzed from waist down and also that someone like Anjali, does not let her paralysis get in the way of having a very juicy and adventurous life. More power to people like her! I look forward to seeing her at next years Sun Run!

So, what are you grateful for today ?
